Nancy, can you please tell what is the name of the show with the couple that is fixing a Chateau?

It's called Escape to the Château. It's a Brit docu reality series that's been on for a bit of time now. They've had nine seasons on the regular show, plus a second series. It's got a bit of everything: home renovation, cooking, interior design, weddings and parties, family scenes, lots of foodie stuff, and gorgeous landscapes in France.

And I'm up to the part where they build an upscale "glamping" hut on a pontoon in their moat!

I've been streaming it on Peacock.

escape to the chateau is such a comfort show for me... i too would like to purchase a castle in france where i spend most of my time doing diy projects, making jam, growing fruits and vegetables, having lil french lessons and being alive inside a castle

How does one build a fandom?

Because I wanna talk to people about Escape to the Chateau but nobody I know cares about it and the people who ARE talking about it online are mums on facebook talking about their DIY projects

Where are my tumblr people who find the joy in the show to be the moments like when they spent an hour putting up a circus tent in the woods upside down?

Or the fact that 6 seasons in the narrator still always introduces steve who has been in every episode as "builder mate steve" every time he's on screen

Or every interstitial of Rosie the cat just doing cat things because the cameraperson is obviously in love with her

Or when Dorothy (5) punched a woman in the butt during a tour of the chateau

And the narration by Tracy-Ann Oberman. Yes, that Tracy-Ann Oberman. Is SO funny to me. A couple of faves from one episode I watched recently:

"The meadow has been raked to within an inch of its life"

"Dick takes a deep breath and enters his personal pit of misery" (they were only putting a vinyl adhesive on a board)

"Two hours and two buckets later" (he fell off a bucket he was sitting on rip)

And Dick and Angel themselves, the couple renovating the chateau– did I mention this is a home renovation show? Anyway, Dick and Angel are adorable and creative and such good parents that are in love with each other and I just think they're kind and interesting people. Also, Dick climbs a tree

I drew the Château de la Motte-Husson, which is at the heart of the Escape To The Chateau show/s.

I love them all, it is both the ultimate comfort viewing and kind of competence porn. It makes me feel the energy to do practical things.

I was feeling kind of listless and anxious so I just wanted to sit and do some good old fashioned vector drawing. I’d like to do more with it but it’s hard to know what that might be! While I’m fond of drawing houses and vehicles with vertically stretched proportions, it’s normally for a book cover project or poster...

Angel Strawbridge

Angel Strawbridge is a well known interior designer, most popular for her tv show ‘escape to the chateaux’ with her husband Dick, where they renovated their run down French chateaux into a much loved home and now full fledged business. Angel’s interior design style is very vintage, elegant and extravagant, this is seen within her home:

Angel has even designed her own brand/ range of wallpapers and furnishings which she sells pretty much everywhere in well known stores such as Next, Sainsbury's etc. She is a collector of old antiques and has said that her biggest inspiration is the Chateau-de-la-Motte Husson because she always finds hidden ‘treasures’ such as vintage magazines, wallpapers, ornaments, art, furniture etc. She seems to have endless creative ideas and is very good at utilising her space and things she finds around her, reupholstering furniture and bringing new life to old objects. She makes use out of things people would normally throw away, recycling crafts which saves money and helps the environment! This links in with my research on pollution and climate change, if each person does their own bit to help the environment then it can go a long way.

Angel is a woman of many talents and even holds weddings at her chateaux. During this time, she transforms her home into a magical setting to fit the clients requests. A particular favourite of mine was when she covered the wall at the top of the staircase in butterflies and flowers, creating a focal point that guides ur eye towards the staircase for when the bride walks down. She even has a unicorn head on her wall! 

Her unique taste in style and design is always bright and vibrant, with each room having a different theme/ colour palette. One-of-a-kind pieces tying the room together and making it personal to her. She always has clever and creative ideas, creating vintage but sophisticated looks and its thought her love for craft, fashion and style came from helping her parents at their shop.

Overall, I find her very inspiring and love everything she creates, with her uniqueness working in her favour and making her stand out from the rest.
